A woman was found with “hair on her lips and blood on her hands” when neighbors called police in the city of Canton, Ohio.

Police have released video footage of the incident, which allegedly shows 27-year-old Allexis Ferrell smashing the cat’s head before eating it on August 16.

The city is 172 miles from Springfield, where Donald Trump made the bizarre claim that Haitian immigrants were “eating pets” during the recent presidential debate.

Ferrell is not a migrant and is from Canton.

Nevertheless, the video of Ferrell’s arrest was widely circulated on the Internet and sparked a storm of outrage following Trump’s comments just days earlier.

The authorities have now released the bodycam footage of her arrest.

Police said: “Officers were able to determine that Allexis smashed the cat’s head with her foot and then began to eat the cat.”

In the video, an officer can be heard telling Ferrell to smile.

“Smile for me. Do this,” he says, holding up a camera. “Did you eat the cat? Did you eat it?”

She bares her teeth for the picture and shakes her head slightly, but says nothing.

“Why did you kill it?” he asks.

“I don’t know,” she replies.

“Get in there. This is ridiculous,” he says and pushes her into the car.

Ferrell is being held in the Stark County Jail on charges of cruelty to animals, a fifth-degree felony.

She graduated from Canton McKinley High School in 2015 and has a long criminal history, with previous charges including cocaine possession, receiving stolen goods and child endangerment.

“The suspect in this case is not a Haitian immigrant,” said Canton police spokesman Dennis Garren. “She has lived in Canton her entire life.”

Her bail was set at $100,000 and she is scheduled to appear in a competency hearing before Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank G. Forchione on October 15.

She has pleaded not guilty on the grounds of insanity.

Karen Graves, Strategic Engagement Manager in Springfield, stressed that there are no credible rumors regarding the allegations that the animals are being eaten.

“In response to recent rumors that the immigrant population in our city is engaging in criminal activity, we want to clarify that there are no credible reports or specific allegations that pets have been harmed, injured or mistreated by individuals from the immigrant community,” she said.

“In addition, there are no confirmed cases of immigrants engaging in illegal activities such as squatting or dumping garbage in front of residents’ homes.”

“Furthermore, there are no reports that members of the immigrant community intentionally obstructed traffic.”

Springfield Mayor Bob Rue refuted the claims during a city commission meeting on Tuesday.

Speaking before the meeting, Rue said, “Rumors like this distract from the real problems, such as concerns about housing, the resources needed for our schools, and our overburdened health care system.”

During the presidential debate with Kamala Harris, Donald Trump made unsubstantiated claims that Haitian migrants in Springfield were eating their neighbors’ pets.

The first allegations that pets had been eaten in Springfield were made at a City Commission meeting on July 30.

Angry locals used the forum to express their feelings about the 15,000 Haitians who have entered the country with temporary protection status since 2020.

“I really urge you to get out here and do something,” one angry resident said at the meeting.

“These Haitians are running into garbage cans, running into buildings, they’re flipping over cars in the middle of the street.”

“They’re in the park, grabbing ducks by the neck, cutting off their heads and running away with them. They eat them.”
