Coach fired! Osaka parts ways with her coach

Naomi Osaka and her successful coach Wim Fissette are going their separate ways.

The 26-year-old Japanese announces her separation from her Belgian coach after four years.

Some setbacks in the comeback season

During this time, Osaka celebrated two Grand Slam titles with Wim Fissette. “Four years, two Slams and many memories. Thank you Wim for being a great coach and person. I wish you all the best,” the former world number one said on Instagram.

However, the four-time Grand Slam winner (2x Australian Open, 2x US Open) has suffered a number of setbacks this year. After returning to the WTA tour and giving birth to her daughter, the seven-time WTA title winner missed the third round in every Grand Slam tournament this year.

Well-known successor apparently soon to be announced

The search for a future coach could come to a quick end, as Osaka has recently been seen on the courts often with top French coach Patrick Mouratoglou.

In the past, the 54-year-old has coached 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams, Simona Halep and ATP stars Holger Rune and Stefanos Tsitsipas, among others.
