It’s finally Friday, but don’t get too excited. The weekend may be almost here, but we still have to get through Friday the 13th! You’d think the New York Times would publish a particularly spooky Strands today for those of us who suffer from superstition, but that’s not the case. Consider this a free clue!

Strands is the latest game in the New York Times series of puzzle games. It is a fun twist on classic word search games. Each day we are given a new theme and then we must find all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of those words is the Spangram which runs from one side of the grid to the other and reveals even more about the topic of the day.

Today’s Strands breakdown

I’m a huge fan of westerns, so this puzzle was very easy to solve except for the last two words in the bottom right corner. I found COWBOY right away and then the spangram. Everything else was easy until only SALOON and OUTLAW remained, and I got stuck there for a while. I think it took me longer to figure out those two words than the rest of the grid. In the end, I solved it without needing a hint. Yay!
