“Wonder Woman” Lynda Carter does not support her sister in Arizona election

Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman actress, condemned her sister’s candidacy for a contested seat in the Arizona House of Representatives, telling Mother Jones on Friday that she would not support her for any elected office.

The actress’s statement was part of Mother Jones’s exposé about her sister Pamela Carter, a far-right Republican who is running to represent part of Maricopa County in the Arizona House of Representatives.

“On her website, Pam claims she has ‘the full support of her family,'” Lynda Carter told Mother Jones. “I have known Pam my entire life, so unfortunately I cannot recommend her for this or any other public office.”

Pamela Carter did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment. Her platform includes opposition to same-sex marriage, abortion in almost all cases and inclusion of transgender people in sports. She supports arming teachers.

Lynda Carter, a vocal advocate for reproductive rights, also offered her support to Democrats running against her sister in Arizona’s Fourth Legislative District.

“As a native Arizonan, I am proud to support Kelli Butler and Karen Gresham to represent LD4 in the Arizona House of Representatives,” she told Mother Jones. “Kelli and Karen are both strong, experienced candidates, born and raised in Arizona. They are working mothers fighting for the rights that matter most to Arizonans, especially the right of every child to a quality education.”

The district currently has two representatives, one Democrat and one Republican.

Lynda Carter also praised the late U.S. Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, for his commitment to “decency, justice and freedom.”
