X-MEN ’97 showrunner Beau DeMayo reveals the original plot of DOCTOR STRANGE 2

We often share leaks and rumors here at ComicBookMovie.com and appreciate that some of you… well, you don’t believe them! That’s fine, but there have been many occasions now where they have been proven correct. Of course, sometimes that hasn’t been so much the case.

Earlier this week we shared a breakdown an early version of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness by leaker @MyTimeToShineH. Share a link to our post, former X-Men ’97 Showrunner Beau DeMayo confirmed the accuracy and shared further details.

How is this a reliable source?

“Right. The OG designs did her justice.” he said about the Scarlet Witch. “Wanda was with Strange to recover after Westview, feeling guilty about what she had done. She helps him, Wong, and Chavez (who she teaches) defeat Nightmare across the multiverse, where she also sees her variants happy with their children.”

“Still, Wanda resists, and she – not Chavez – helps Strange save the day against Nightmare, who turns out to be a Darkhold-corrupted variant of Strange.” continued the author. “She also used her experiences in WandaVision to warn Chavez against abusing his power.”

“Only after saving the day and unable to resist finding a multiverse where she can be with her children does Wanda break away from Strange, sobbing, and accidentally decapitate Wong, who tries to stop her from escaping into the multiverse. That was the cliffhanger of the film.”

While this sounds like a far better story arc for the MCU’s Wanda Maximoff, Wong’s death would have been a huge blow to fans of the character. Then again, that was the point of the whole thing, and a cliffhanger like this sounds like a far more exciting resolution than the rushed, chaotic way things turned out for Stephen Strange and co.

On average from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness We saw Scarlet Witch seemingly take her own life in 2022, Chavez travel to Kamar-Taj for training, and Strange’s third eye open (without explanation) before he embarked on a mysterious adventure with Clea.

DeMayo later pointed out that this draft “made a lot more sense, and even as she escapes, Wanda is wracked with guilt in classic comic book fashion, apologizing over and over to Strange as she disappears, leaving him with the body of his dead friend.”

We don’t know why Marvel Studios deviated from these plans, but it seems that Michael Waldron is to blame. Kevin Feige saw fit to appoint him as the writer of not only this sequel, but both. avenger Films until the managing director takes a creative turn to Avengers: EndgameThe creative team has asked for help to revive a saga that many fans felt had become a sinking ship.

COVID is probably another factor. Before the pandemic, America Chavez was supposed to play a key role in Spider-Man: No Way Homebut all that time at home – and several delays – led to big changes that may not have been for the best in the end.
