Apple has started the pre-order phase for new hardware

Apple today launched the pre-order phase for the products announced at the beginning of the week: AirPods 4 (with and without ANC), iPhone 16 (6.1 inches, A18), iPhone 16 Plus (6.7 inches, A18), iPhone 16 Pro (6.3 inches, A18 Pro), iPhone 16 Pro Max (6.9 inches, A18 Pro) and Apple Watch Series 10 (42 and 46 mm) can be ordered now, with deliveries starting at the end of next week, while the pre-production models iPhone 15 (6.1 inches, A16) and iPhone 15 Plus (6.7 inches, A16) are discounted in the remaining offer (Amazon advertising partner links*)

As part of the new product launches, the iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, AirPods 2, AirPods 3 and Apple Watch Series 9 were discontinued. The USB-C interface for the otherwise unchanged AirPods Max and a new color (Titanium Black) for the otherwise unchanged Apple Watch Ultra 2 are not really new. Apple has not introduced a new Apple Watch SE.

The most important innovations in the iPhone 16 series include faster chips (A18 and A18 Pro), Wi-Fi version 7, an additional button for camera control (below the side button), longer battery life, faster charging via MagSafe, various camera improvements and slightly larger displays on the Pro (Max). In addition, some innovations from the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) have been incorporated into the iPhone 16 (Plus), including the action button, thread support, improved ultra-wide-angle camera (12 megapixels, ƒ/2.2 aperture) and macro photos.

The A18 and A18 Pro processors, like the M4, are manufactured using the 2nd generation 3-nanometer process. The A18 Pro has 6 CPU and GPU cores each, the A18 has 6 CPU and 5 GPU cores. Apple advertises the iPhone 16 (Plus) with performance increases of up to 30 percent (CPU) and up to 40 percent (GPU) compared to the iPhone 15 (Plus) equipped with the A16. According to the manufacturer, the A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) has increases of up to 15 and 20 percent (CPU/GPU) compared to the A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro (Max).

The Apple Watch Series 10 offers several innovations: a thinner and lighter design, larger OLED displays (42 and 46 millimeters) with a wider aspect ratio and wide viewing angle, faster charging, sleep apnea detection, a water temperature sensor and a depth gauge.

The new generation of AirPods is the first to be available in a model with active noise cancellation (ANC). Compared to the AirPods 3, Apple also promises improved comfort and a new acoustic architecture for improved sound based on the H2 chip.
