Only three teams with new parts

(Motorsport-Total.com) – After the end of the European season in Formula 1, things will be quiet in the 2024 development race: For the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku (follow all units here in the Formula 1 live ticker!), only three teams have submitted technical innovations to the International Automobile Federation (FIA): Red Bull, Aston Martin and Racing Bulls (for an overview of all updates in the 2024 Formula 1 season!).

The remaining seven Formula 1 racing teams are not making any changes to their vehicles at the start of the final third of the season: they have neither track-specific nor performance-relevant updates.

But even the changes made by the three teams mentioned were small. Red Bull, for example, traveled to Baku with a modified underbody: various surfaces on the underside of the underbody have been partially raised and/or lowered. This changes the local air pressure along the underbody and improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle, “under all conditions,” as Red Bull emphasizes.

New little things at Aston Martin too: The team has adapted air deflectors on the rear axle and specifically reworked their lower edge. This “modified the local airflow at the rear end of the underbody and improved its performance,” explains Aston Martin.

The racing team around Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll continues to lead the development race when it comes to the number of technical updates used. In this “ranking”, Aston Martin is in first place ahead of Red Bull, Racing Bulls and McLaren. Alpine and Williams are “tied for points” at the end with around half of Aston Martin’s updates. Both have not received any performance updates since the summer break.

The only track-specific adjustment made by Racing Bulls for Baku is that, compared to the low-downforce front wing used in Monza, the team is using less curved front wing flaps this weekend. “This reduces the level of downforce at the front and helps with the balance of the car on tracks with little drag and low balance,” is how the team describes it.
