Community gathers, many questions after discovery of child’s remains in Rose Hill garden

ROSE HILL, Kan. (KWCH) – A community in shock has far more questions than answers. No arrests have been announced since Police discovered the remains of a child behind a house in Rose HillThe investigation has not revealed any details about the child’s age or how and when he died, at least not publicly.

“It’s never good. There’s no good outcome,” said Rose Hill Police Chief Taylor Parlier.

Police believe the death was a murder that likely occurred years ago. Although the child’s identity and cause of death are unknown, news of a child’s death is a tragedy in the community, prompting religious leaders and others to gather for a candlelight vigil Thursday night to honor the child’s life and mourn his loss. The burden is heavy, even though initial investigations indicate the loss was not recent.

“One of the best things about Kansas is that when tragedies strike, when only our neighbors are suffering, we stand together,” said Joe Rose, pastor of Rose Hill Victory Church.

With no real explanation yet for the Rose Hill murder investigation, Rose stressed the importance of supporting one another, as community members demonstrated at Thursday night’s vigil.

“We will need each other not only today,” Rose said.

An autopsy should answer some of the questions surrounding Wednesday’s discovery. Unless further information is available in the case by then, the police probably won’t be able to say much about it.
