Ricky Thompson, 17.

MORE STORIES:

According to court documents, he caused bodily harm by firing a firearm “intentionally, knowingly and recklessly.”

“I’m confident that the truth will come out and people will see what really happened and what Ricky’s involvement was,” Vazquez says.

Thompson was the first person taken into custody following the mass shooting that left 33-year-old Lyndsey Vicknair and 54-year-old Ara Duke dead.

“He was never on the run. He was with his family. He’s a kid who’s in eleventh grade and lives at home with his mom and little brother, so he was at home. He also has no previous criminal activity. He was a person who was pretty well known to the kids with his music, and that’s why he was easy to identify. I think that’s why he was identified first,” says Vazquez.

Following Thompson’s arrest, two other juveniles were taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

“We know that these were two different groups involved in a dispute with each other. This investigation will show us what sparked the conflict, why it happened and we will hold them accountable again,” said Allen Banks, Round Rock Police Chief.

“We have to leave no stone unturned. We have to find everyone involved and find out who started what, who was the instigator and whether there were people who defended themselves. Keshawn Dickson, who is also accused of this crime, has, to my knowledge, been charged with 13 crimes, which seems to be somewhat revealing as to who did what,” Vazquez says.

A grand jury in Williamson County indicted Thompson on charges of first-degree assault and mass shooting.

“There’s a lot more to this story and I think now that charges are being filed in the cases, we’ll be able to examine the evidence and really see what happened,” Vazquez says.

The lawyer says the crime could be punishable by up to life in prison. The next hearing is scheduled for November 5.
