1 arrested after fatal shooting in Wayne County, KSP investigates

Kentucky State Police have released more details about the fatal shooting that occurred in Wayne County on Tuesday.

According to KSP, they were notified around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday that a man had been shot on R Barnett Road.

When KSP arrived at the scene, they found a dead man named Samuel R. White (75) lying on the street with a gunshot wound.

According to KSP, a preliminary investigation determined that a verbal altercation occurred between White and 66-year-old Willard Upchurch at a lumber yard.

According to KSP, during the verbal altercation, Upchurch allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot White.

According to KSP, White was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner and an autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort.

According to KSP, Upchurch was arrested and charged with murder and tampering with evidence.

He is being held at the Wayne County Detention Center.
