During a search on Tuesday, BCSO officers seized weapons and ammunition from the suspect’s home.

Authorities in the greater San Antonio area arrested a 12-year-old student on Tuesday on suspicion of threatening to shoot on Northside ISD school grounds, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

It is the second time in less than a week that local law enforcement has arrested a juvenile suspect on suspicion of threatening to carry out a school shooting. Both threats come just days after a gunman killed four people and injured nine in a shooting spree at a Georgia school.

In the most recent arrest in San Antonio, a student at Luna Middle School made the threat during an off-campus FaceTime call last Friday, according to BCSO records. During that conversation, the suspect allegedly showed another person pictures of firearms and then threatened to kill that person and to gun down a Northside campus.

BCSO launched an investigation after NISD officials alerted it to the threat. After obtaining a warrant, officers arrested the teen at his West Side home on Tuesday – four days after the alleged threat was made.

According to BSCO officials, officers found two different body armor plate carriers and other items that could be used in a school shooting.

During a search of the suspect’s home, BCSO officers seized a .380 caliber pistol with an extended magazine, ammunition, two fake pistols, and two body armor plate carriers. The BCSO report did not provide any information on how the juvenile obtained the weapon and ammunition.

The suspect was booked into the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with making terroristic threats.

“It is important that parents talk to their children about the serious consequences that come with making threats,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said in a statement. “The BCSO will thoroughly investigate these cases and make arrests when appropriate.”

Luna Middle School Principal Lisa Richard notified parents of the student’s arrest on Tuesday.

“In addition to facing criminal charges, the individual will also face the consequences set forth in our Student Conduct Policy,” Richard wrote in a memo to parents.

NISD Assistant Superintendent Barry Perez told the Current that the district “will continue to follow our safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of our students and staff to the best of our ability.”

In the other recent arrest in San Antonio, a 12-year-old student allegedly threatened to carry out attacks on seven local schools in a social media post. Although no weapons were found in the teen’s home, the suspect was still charged with seven counts of terroristic threats.

NISD asks residents to report potential threats to the district hotline at (210) 397-7233.
