Unknown people called the man in the afternoon, according to police reports on Wednesday. The perpetrators had posed as police officers and tricked the senior into believing that fraudsters were on the loose and that the police would now secure his money.

According to police, the pensioner – convinced that he was doing the right thing – deposited around 40,000 euros in cash and several debit cards in a cooking pot in front of his front door.

A man dressed in black appeared shortly after, took the pot and disappeared in an unknown direction, it was said.
