“Organ of the month” – Church musician tests his way through Weinviertel organs

With its 33 registers and three manuals, the Hollabrunn organ is one of the largest in the Weinviertel, says church music consultant Johannes Lenius.

IThe organs of the Weinviertel are presented in short videos. Church music consultant Johannes Lenius provides information and then plays the organs. Finally, it was Hollabrunn’s turn.

Johannes Lenius, church music consultant for the Archdiocese of Vienna, has made ten-minute videos about the organs of the Weinviertel region over the last few months. A new one follows each month. Großstelzendorf, Kammersdorf and Laa have already been released, among others. In June, the organ of the month was the one in the parish church of St. Ulrich in Hollabrunn.

The videos are characterized by a calm, unexcited art. First, the church building is shown from the outside and some information about the church is given. Then Lenius takes his audience into the interior of the church and shows the special features of the organ. The second part of the video always consists of a piece of music that the Stockerauer plays on the organ.

Johannes Lenius took piano and organ lessons at the school of the Diocesan Commission for Church Music of the Archdiocese of Vienna and studied church music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna from 1979 to 1985. Since 1989 he has been church music consultant and regional cantor of the vicariate of Vienna North and was a church musician in the parish church of Stockerau.
