So much in advance: Both watches have very clear target groups and it is precisely where the needs diverge that the biggest differences arise.

Apple Watch 10 vs. Ultra 2: Display and casing

The display of the two smartwatch generations differs in several ways, for example in brightness:

  • Apple Watch Ultra 2: up to 3,000 nits
  • Apple Watch 10: up to 2,000 nits

While we’re still impressed by the Apple Watch Ultra 2’s peak brightness in direct sunlight, we find the Series 9’s brightness of up to 2,000 nits to be more than sufficient.

New to the Series 10, however, is a special OLED display for the outwardly curved edge of the display, which, according to the manufacturer, boasts a “40 percent bright viewing angle.”

Such an improvement could be beneficial when cycling, for example.

The Series 10 is again available in many colors and options.

Further differences can be found in the display sizes. While the Apple Watch Ultra 2 boasts a whopping 49 millimeters, the Series 10 comes in either 42 or even 46 millimeters. This means that the differences in display size are smaller than ever.

The Series 10 is also getting closer to its big sister with its new (and above all more expensive) case selection: the tenth generation is also available in titanium.

Apple Watch 10 vs. Ultra 2: Wearing comfort

We haven’t been able to strap the Series 10 around our wrists yet, but we have been able to wear the previous versions and the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

It is obvious (or rather obvious on the arm) that Apple’s Ultra iteration is much bulkier and more ostentatious – which some people will certainly like.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 now comes in black.

However, when worn during sleep, we find the Series 9 to be much more comfortable and the case of the Apple Watch 10 has become even thinner and lighter (about 10 percent).

Apple Watch 10 vs. Ultra 2: Chip and battery life

In summary, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 It is clearly ahead in terms of battery life. While the Ultra smartwatch lasts up to 36 hours, the Apple Watch 10 lasts for 18 hours, according to the manufacturer.

The actual running time can of course vary greatly depending on usage.

Unlike the Ultra 2, the Series 10 is equipped with the latest S10 chipIn everyday life, the differences are unlikely to be noticeable. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 responds to all requests with lightning speed – whether it’s opening an app, Siri requests or displaying messages on the watch.

Apple Watch 10 vs. Ultra 2: Sports and health features

Regardless of whether you choose the Series 10 or the Apple Watch Ultra 2, both offer almost identical health and fitness features.

Both watches allow monitoring of heart rate and body temperaturethe analysis of sleep phases and sleep quality as well as the monitoring of menstruation.

In addition, both devices can potentially indicate atrial fibrillation by detecting irregular heart rhythms and unusually high or low heart rates.

With watchOS 11, both watches will have further innovations that expand the repertoire: watchOS 11 brings five new features you should try on the Apple Watch

In addition, Apple will offer a function to detect sleep apnea in the future. This will be expanded to the Series 9 as well as the Series 10 and Ultra 2. The measurement is clinically validated and still has to be approved by the US FDA.

Sleep apnea will likely come after the official release of watchOS 11 on September 16th.

Ultra-wideband (L1 and L5 GPS) will probably no longer be supported on the Series 10; it will remain reserved for the Ultra model.

In contrast to the Series 10, the Ultra 2 is also waterproof up to 100 meters (instead of 50 meters) and has a depth gauge up to 40 meters. The Series 10 also lacks EN13319 certification.

With the Oceanic+ app, the tenth generation is suitable for snorkeling, while the Ultra 2 can be used as a dive computer (up to 40 meters).

Prices and availability

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 will be launched in 2023. It will be available in black from September 20th for 899 euros.

The Apple Series 10 starts at a price of 449 euros. Depending on the model and equipment, the price naturally increases.
