European champion started over 10 kilometers

Garrel – Around 900 runners have already registered for the Freimarkt run in Garrel – a prominent name in the running scene has also announced her participation: Rabea Schöneborn. The athlete from SCC Berlin will start on the 10 km course. This was announced by the organizing team of the athletics department of the organizing BV Garrel. Christina Gerdes is a training partner and has been persuaded to take part in the traditional run in Garrel. Gerdes will also start in Garrel.

The favorites

This means that a European champion will be competing in the 2023 marathon team in Garrel. She was German runner-up in the marathon in 2022 and German champion over 10,000 meters in 2021, to name her greatest successes. She – like her twin sister Deborah – had just canceled her participation in the German Half Marathon Championships, which will be held in Hamburg on Sunday. They had both experienced a “rollercoaster ride between injuries and comebacks” this year and had not been able to train consistently, the well-known running twins explained on Instagram. Their season bests: In March they ran 33.24 minutes over ten kilometers in Paderborn (best: 32:54 min). In April she ran the marathon in Hamburg in 2:35:07 hours (best: 2:37:03).

In the men’s competition, Michael Majewski is aiming to defend his title. Last year he won in a time of 32:13 minutes, ahead of Matthias Bergmann from OTB Osnabrück (33:59). In the women’s race, Christina Gerdes was ahead and won in a time of 36:28. The women’s course record – held by Tabea Themann with 35:35 minutes – could therefore fall this year.

Registration office

The organizing team, consisting of Volker Herrmann, Frank Langfermann, Matthias Schäfer, Ralf Bohmann-Laing and Fabian Kühling, is hoping for lots of participants, as the forecast promises the best running weather. Registrations are still possible until Thursday evening at www.freimarktslauf.de. Late registrations are possible up to 30 minutes before the start. The registration office is located at Hauptstraße 50a in the rooms of the former fashion store “Sam’s”. Starting documents can be picked up there on Friday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. and on Saturday morning from 11 a.m. For the first time, the Freimarktslauf will offer a combined ranking for runners who start both over 5 and over 10 kilometers.

The starting times

At 2.30 p.m. the girls will start the 400 meter Bambini kindergarten run, followed by the boys at 2.35 p.m. The Bambini runs for girls in the 1st and 2nd grade of primary school over 400 meters start at 2.45 p.m., the boys start at 2.50 p.m. The taster run is 1.2 kilometers long and starts at 3 p.m. Half an hour later the school run over 2.5 kilometers started. The main run over 10 kilometers starts at 4.30 p.m. There are four laps through the center of Garrel. Relay teams with four participants can also take part. Anyone who wants to can continue running for the 10 km classification after handing over their baton. The 5 km run starts at 6 p.m. There is also a team classification, in which the five fastest finishers from a team are evaluated.
