The decision for China was made “without really involving the nations.”

China in action in Romania

The ITF points to the importance of the Chinese market with more than 20 million players in response to criticism. “Hosting a Davis Cup final event in China offers the opportunity to further increase growth,” said a spokesman – without addressing the specific points of criticism such as the travel strain for four non-Asian teams.

By the way, the Chinese team only plays in the 3rd league of the Davis Cup and plays its group matches at the same time – in Romania.
