Candlelight vigil held in downtown Lincoln to commemorate fatal shooting victim

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KLKN) – The family of a Lincoln murder victim gathered for a candlelight vigil Tuesday evening.

According to police, Saiveon Hopkins was shot early Sunday morning after several fights broke out near 11th and P Streets.

His family said he was in town visiting and took his mother to the Huskers football game.

His family is desperate and is now trying to come to terms with his death.

Hopkins grew up in Lincoln and his friends and family came together to honor his memory with a vigil.

His friends talked about how generous and kind he was and said he always had a smile on his face.

Hopkins’ family said he had a strong work ethic and left behind an incredible legacy, including a young daughter.

Those who attended the vigil said the pain was unbearable, caused by a senseless tragedy.

Despite their grief, his family hopes that they can receive justice.
