The next Red Bull revolution is underway! Big plans with German shooting star

Primoz Roglic’s Vuelta success and the strength of upstart Florian Lipowitz are said to have been just the beginning. Red Bull, with team manager Ralph Denk, has great ambitions to shape a new era in cycling after joining the BORA-hansgrohe team, which has had a pro license since 2018. The next establishment of a team in the Austrian group’s top sport has begun.

With Red Bull’s financial strength, there would be enough resources to launch a poaching offensive and accelerate the path to the top. Remco Evenepoel, the 2022 Vuelta overall winner and two-time Olympic champion in Paris, has long been considered a potential new star signing at Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe.

With the now four-time Vuelta winner Roglic, who also won the Giro d’Italia and made it to the podium at the Tour de France, and rising star Lipowitz, we already have world-class riders.

Roglic’s noble helper Lipowitz, who according to boss Denk should be given enough time to mature in peace with his “impressive upper body”, is raising hopes of golden cycling times for the Bavarian-Austrian team with his performances that have surprised everyone.

“I think he learned a lot from Primoz in these three weeks. Primoz addressed some things very clearly and directly when there were coordination problems on the mountain,” is what one thinks after the conclusion of the three-week Tour of Spain. “There is still a lot of potential in him”

Achievements such as those of former biathlete Lipowitz, who only started cycling four years ago, are viewed favorably by the bosses. The Austrian company will remain true to itself in this major sporting project and, above all, will win over the sport’s jewels. For this purpose, a new U23 Continental team has been created, which will promote young talents and prepare them for greater challenges from 2025.

In Formula 1, the majority of regular drivers have now received training at the so-called “Red Bull Driver Academy”, the NLZ in Salzburg is setting standards in ice hockey training and in football too, cooperations have secured early rough diamonds such as Bayern’s Konrad Laimer, Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai and Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Red Bull’s entry is intended to make such strategies accessible to cycling as well, where recently only one employee was responsible for the entire scouting of the team, which before RB’s entry had only managed one overall Grand Tour victory in six years of top-class racing: Jai Hindley won the Giro d’Italia in 2022.

One thing is certain: the combination of developing young riders and strategic transfers should soon lead Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe to the top and put an end to the dominance of Jumbo-Visma and UAE Team Emirates.
