On-demand flights with FlyV from May

On-demand flights with FlyV from May

The start-up FlyV launched on May 5, 2025 from Friedrichshafen Airport in Lake Constance. Initially, a plane with nine seats will be stationed at the airport and will fly from there to various locations within a radius of about 1,000 kilometers. Flights can already be booked – but this works completely differently with FlyV than with other airlines.

The company’s concept does not require a fixed flight schedule, as Tomislav Lang, founder of FlyV, explained when presenting the project on Tuesday. Instead, customers tell them where they want to fly and are then given a time period in which the flight will take place.

Lake Constance Airport is an ideal starting point

One to three days before the flight, FlyV then announces the specific flight times – which are based on the times given by fellow passengers. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, a proprietary algorithm has been developed that also works with artificial intelligence (AI), reported Lang.

“We give the general public the opportunity to travel quickly to decentralized locations,” said Anton Lutz, managing director of FlyV. Commercial aviation is facing the problem that demand at smaller, regional airports is “thin and volatile,” said Lutz. This is where they want to start.

Unless the start-up has chosen Lake Constance Airport as its first departure point by chance. Friedrichshafen and the Lake Constance region are economically strong, but poorly connected in terms of transport. With the large company on site, there are a number of potential customers who could use FlyV regularly.

This is how much flights should cost

“But we are not just targeting business customers,” said Tomislav Lang. The aim is for everyone to be able to fly at a reasonable price – in the medium and long term, an average of 150 euros per seat. The aim is to be competitive with buses and trains. “If we do it right, we will be the Uber of the skies,” said Lang.

But before that happens, the concept has to prove itself. It started small – with one machine in Friedrichshafen. Many more will be added later.

It is a Tecnam P2012 – a twin-engine aircraft with a total of 750 hp. It is designed for short distances with a flight time of between 30 and 90 minutes. The Tecnam has space for nine passengers – plus nine large pieces of luggage.

Bookings can already be requested

In the first phase, passengers can specify all possible destinations within a radius of about 1000 kilometers. By email to [email protected] You can request the flight and will then receive a response within 24 hours as to whether the route is possible.

Later, only certain destinations will be offered – based on the demand recorded in the first phase, as Anton Lutz reports. Bookings will then also be possible via a separate app.

Lake Constance Airport sees a great opportunity in the project, as airport spokesman Bernd Behrend said. With such “on-demand flights” the airport could become a hub – also for passengers who only change planes locally. Large companies such as ZF, Airbus and IFM have already expressed their interest in using FlyV flights.

It is also exciting that the start-up is aiming to fly with electric propulsion in the future – also CO₂-neutral. This would also make short-haul flights, for example to Stuttgart, possible, which could be accepted from a climate protection perspective, says Behrend.
