Car with 5-year-old girl in it towed away

SAN ANTONIO (KENS) – A tow truck driver in San Antonio is under investigation after he towed a car with a 5-year-old girl inside.

According to police, the car was legally towed from a private parking lot. However, towing a car with a person inside is illegal.

It was a frightening situation for a San Antonio mother when her daughter disappeared in a towed vehicle within just five minutes.

Thanks to a Good Samaritan, she was found in a tow yard just five kilometers away.

“She was crying. She was screaming,” said Gilbert Ramirez.

Ramirez had just finished doing laundry when he noticed a screaming pregnant mother on the property of the La Scala Apartments.

“I said, ‘What’s wrong, ma’am?’ She said, ‘My baby,'” Ramirez said.

Dolores Bueso said she watched helplessly as her car was towed away with her sick five-year-old daughter inside.

She tried to flag down the tow truck driver, but it was too late.

“I don’t want this to happen to my daughter or anyone’s daughter,” Ramirez said.

Bueso, who also lives in the complex, said she was gone for no more than five minutes to check if a family member was home.

The car’s hazard lights and air conditioning were on.

According to police, this was enough for Trinity Towing to pick up the vehicle even though it was not properly attached.

Ramirez and Bueso said they briefly gave chase.

“I stopped at the corner of West Avenue and Blanco and called the police,” Ramirez said. “And then I called the fire department because she couldn’t stop crying. So I said, ‘Look, everything’s going to be OK. Calm down.'”

Bueso’s little daughter was safely rescued at the towing yard.

San Antonio Police are currently investigating the circumstances and stress that it is illegal to tow a car with a person inside.

According to police, Trinity Towing is cooperating with the investigation.

The tow truck driver may face charges of child endangerment.

Trinity Towing said in a statement that the car was in the tow yard for “a few minutes” before they noticed that a child was inside.

The company further stated: “Although the driver followed the necessary protocols, the situation could have been much more serious.”
