Journalist attacked and injured in Berlin: Two attacks in just a few hours

On Monday, journalist Iman Sefati was injured at a rally called “Peace in Gaza.” A 20-year-old man is said to have hit him several times on the head with a flagpole. He was later attacked again at another event.

According to Berlin police on Tuesday, the 38-year-old was discovered on Monday afternoon in the course of his professional activities on Berlin’s Alexanderplatz, where a rally entitled “Peace in Gaza” was taking place. A rally participant is said to have hit several men on the head with a flagpole and injured him.

The attacker is said to be a 20-year-old man who was later arrested by police officers. After receiving legal advice and establishing his identity, he was released.

Another attack in Berlin-Kreuzberg

According to the police, the reporter was later attacked again at another meeting on the topic of “Security through solidarity and humanity – against deportation offensive and militarized borders” on Lausitzer Platz in Kreuzberg. The journalist and his companions are said to have been harassed by several young people.

A youth then allegedly headbutted the 38-year-old, injuring him. The youth then fled in an unknown direction. In both cases, the journalist did not seek immediate medical treatment.

The police’s state security service is supporting the further investigations. Sefati himself posted videos of the incidents on Monday evening on the internet platform X.
