A female driver noticed a burning car in the parking garage of the shopping center on Karl-Marx-Straße at around 6 p.m. and alerted the fire department, it was reported.

According to reports, the flames spread to other parked vehicles, which were also affected by the heat.

The fire brigade was on duty for hours and was able to extinguish the fire. No one was injured.

For the duration of the fire-fighting operations and police measures, Flughafenstrasse between Hermannstrasse and Karl-Marx-Strasse was closed until around 9.40 p.m. The State Criminal Police Office is investigating on suspicion of serious arson.
