How to watch the Trump vs. Harris debate for free – NBC New York

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump will meet in person for the first time on Tuesday evening. It will perhaps be their only debate. After a turbulent summer of campaigning, it will be an exciting opportunity to present their very different visions for the country.

The event will take place in Philadelphia at 9 p.m. ET and will offer Americans the most detailed look at a campaign that has changed dramatically since the last debate in June. In a flash, President Joe Biden withdrew from the race after his disastrous performance, Trump survived an assassination attempt and both sides chose their running mates.

Here are the key details you need to know before the Trump-Harris clash.

Where and when will the presidential debate take place?

The first 2024 presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 10, at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia in the swing state of Pennsylvania.

There will be no audience in the room.

The scheduled debate comes nearly three weeks after the conclusion of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, where Harris officially accepted the party’s nomination following a tumultuous month sparked by Biden’s withdrawal.

When does the debate start and how can I follow it?

The debate is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast by ABC News and moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis, the network said.

NBC News will broadcast the entire debate live and provide comprehensive primetime coverage beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt and TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie will host a primetime pre-debate special on NBC beginning at 8 p.m. ET, followed by a live presentation of the debate moderated by ABC News at 9 p.m. ET.

Holt and Guthrie will continue with special reporting following the debate.

Viewers can watch the debate live on their local NBC station or via the NBC 4 New York streaming channel, which is available 24/7 and free on nearly all online video platforms, including Peacock, YouTube, Samsung TV Plus and the NBC News app on smartphones and smart TVs.

What are the rules?

ABC released the rules of the debate last week.

As in the previous debate, the microphones will be turned on only for the candidate whose turn it is and muted when another candidate speaks. Only the moderators can ask questions.

Trump won a virtual coin toss and was allowed to choose whether to deliver his closing argument first or second. He chose the latter. Closing arguments can last 2 minutes. There are no openings.

During the debate, each candidate will have two minutes to answer each question, followed by a two-minute reply, and an additional minute for follow-up questions, clarifications or answers.

Harris was able to choose her podium spot on the left side of the stage.
