More shooters need this awesome feature

The shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is finally out – a game that I am excited about for one reason in particular: the co-op mode.

A commentary by Daniel Boldt

Warhammer is my personal savior

There are many reasons to be excited about the shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2: Be it the bold graphics, the spectacular action or simply because you love the Warhammer universe with its rich lore.

By the way, if you want to know why our colleague Marco Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 loves, then you can find the review of the game here.

However, I am excited about the game because I can play through the campaign with my best buddy. The online co-op mode makes it possible.

You can see the official trailer for the game here:

There are regularly great multiplayer games (Helldivers 2 for example), but solid co-op games, where I experience a great story together with friends, have unfortunately become a rarity – especially if we leave out small indie games and focus more on the blockbuster area.

In 2024, some big games with co-op campaigns were releasedbut they were all disappointing: Ubisoft’s Skull & Bones deservedly flopped, South Park: Snow Day was a bad joke, and we’d better keep quiet about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 seems like a silver lining on the horizon.

A co-op mode makes every game better

I rarely buy a game directly on release, But here the team feeling is in the foreground. In my experience, any game is made better by the shared experience with a friend, and while Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a great game in general, the co-op campaign makes it sheer madness.

Especially since the shooter beyond the story also its own co-op mode offers, the so-called operations. This probably gives a similar feel to the Horde mode in Gears of War, or perhaps this mode is more in the direction of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 or the classic Left 4 Dead.

Either way, the next few days will be spent shooting the campaign with my best buddy. There will be laughter, screaming and written personal gaming history.
