WhatsApp: This changes when you send large pictures or videos

WHATSAPP

Up until now, when sending large images or videos via WhatsApp, you have only been informed about the status of the transfer in the chat itself. That will soon change – at least on the iPhone.

WhatsApp will better visualize the progress when sending larger files in the future.

If you send a lot of pictures at once or a large video on WhatsApp, you will see a circle in the chat that shows how far the sending has progressed. In the future, all you need to do on the iPhone is take a look at the “Dynamic Island” or the lock screen. The messenger is introducing a so-called live activity for media uploads, reports the fan blog WABetaInfo.

These are designed on Apple phones to keep you up to date at a glance in real time about what’s happening in the apps you use. They complement Apple’s classic app notifications and are intended for apps with frequent content and status updates. Live activities can be seen on the lock screen, in the Dynamic Island of newer iPhone models and, starting with iOS 18, in the Smart Stack on the Apple Watch.

WhatsApp is working on a live activity for media uploads

Using WhatsApp’s live activity, you can not only see how long the upload will take, but also whether it has failed.

Currently, not all users can see WhatsApp’s live activity on their iPhone. WABetaInfo is currently testing the messenger with a select group of users. The function is part of the beta version 24.18.10.77 of WhatsApp for the iPhone. It remains to be seen when it will be made available to everyone.
