UPDATE: Arrest after threat in Telfair County, schools to remain closed Tuesday – 41NBC News

Due to an ongoing threat investigation, all schools in the Telfair County School District will be closed on Tuesday, September 10.

UPDATE (10.30pm): According to Telfair County Sheriff Sim Davidson, the person responsible for the threatening mail was taken into police custody.

“Thank you to all individuals and agencies who worked diligently to identify this individual and resolve the matter quickly,” he wrote. “Although classes have been canceled for tomorrow, 9/10, effective Wednesday, 9/11, our office as well as the MHPD will have additional deputies/officers in our schools for as long as necessary to ensure the continued safety of our children.”

MCRAE-HELENA, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT) – All schools in the Telfair County School District will be closed Tuesday, September 10, due to an ongoing threat investigation.

This is according to a post from Monday evening on the Telfair County High School Facebook page.

“The investigation into the threat made today via the social media post is ongoing,” the post said. “For the safety of our students and staff, classes for all Telfair County students and staff are canceled for tomorrow, September 10, 2024. Further updates will be posted as they become available. Thank you.”

The The sheriff’s office first mentioned that it had been notified of a threat shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday The school district’s announcement about the lifting of compulsory school attendance came shortly after 10 p.m.

“This evening, our office was made aware of a TikTok video that was recently posted threatening a high school shooting,” the sheriff’s office post said. “Please be assured that our office takes this threat seriously and has worked with various agencies, including the McRae-Helena Police Department, Telfair County BOE Police Department, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Georgia Emergency Management Agency/Homeland Security to fully investigate the threat. We are currently interviewing potential witnesses to identify the author of the video.”
