During the September keynote, Apple presented the Apple Watch Series 10 in addition to the new iPhones. A lot has changed in terms of design and functions – we have all the new features at a glance.

The Apple Watch is celebrating its tenth birthday – the first generation of the smartwatch was presented in Cupertino on September 9, 2014. This year it is also the tenth model that Apple CEO Tim Cook presented in the September keynote. What can die Apple Watch Series 10?

Apple Watch Series 10: Pre-orders now available

The Apple Watch Series 10 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (2024) are now available for pre-order. However, the smartwatches will not be delivered until September 20th – which is also the release date of the new iPhones and AirPods. The Apple Watch 10 is priced at 449 euros In the smallest version, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 (2024) costs at least 899 euros.

Design: The Apple Watch Series 10 in a new look

The Apple Watch Series 10 has already undergone a lot of changes on its exterior: The Housing is 9.7 millimeters thinner than its predecessor. The display, however, has grown by 30 percent and comes with rounded edges. Instead of 41 and 45 millimeters as before, the watch is now available in Sizes 42 and 46 millimeters.

The new Apple Watch with aluminum case is available in the Colors Diamond black, rose gold and silver are available. For the models with a titanium case, buyers can choose between slate, gold and natural.

The OLED screen is up to 40 percent brighter than before, which also increases the viewing angle stability – even in sunshine, wearers can easily read the time or notifications from any angle.

New health features of the Apple Watch Series 10

As a middle ground between a smartphone extension and a fitness tracker, the Apple Watch monitors numerous health parameters and records sports and activities. In addition to the old functions of creating an ECG, measuring temperature and blood oxygen, and recording sleep, the new generation adds the following features:

• Monitoring sleep apnea and warning of irregular nighttime breathing,
• Warning for atrial fibrillation,
• Warning when ambient noise is too loud,
• Assessment of the time of ovulation by measuring body temperature.

In addition, the smartwatch has new functions that optimize it for water sports: For example, it now measures the water temperature, shows the water depth and – in combination with the appropriate app – provides information on tides, etc.

Apple Watch Series 9: What could the current model be?

Last year, Apple was rather reserved when it came to major innovations. The Apple Watch Series 9 received a brighter display, a more powerful processor and the option of gesture control. The watch also measures numerous health parameters, records activities and sleep and can also be used for making calls, chatting, navigating and paying thanks to a smartphone connection or its own SIM card.

• Variants: 41 or 45 millimeters, aluminum or stainless steel case, with or without LTE module
• Battery life: up to 18 hours
• Sensors: Brightness, temperature, blood oxygen, acceleration, heart rate
• Health functions: Distance tracker, heart rate monitor, sleep tracker, stress tracker, period monitoring, ECG, fall detection, emergency call and more

If you can do without the larger display and the new tracking functions, you can also go for the cheaper predecessor – and save a few euros.

What about the Apple Watch Ultra?

The speculation that Apple would also introduce the Apple Watch Ultra 3 has not come true.

The Watch Ultra 2 is still getting an upgrade: the new color is satin black, and water sports enthusiasts can now also choose a bracelet made of titanium wire that was specially developed for diving. The watchOS 11 operating system is said to offer improved compass functions and also enable navigation using offline maps.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 – even in the 2023 version – is suitable for extreme sports and outdoor experiences thanks to its high-quality features. For example, it has an emergency siren and can even be used as a dive computer.
