It’s Glowtime: The live ticker for the iPhone keynote

The stream has already started on the Apple website. At the moment, only the colorful Apple logo in neon colors is moving and music is playing.

The stream has now also started on YouTube.

Various customers are shown a short story about how Apple products have helped their health

Tim Cook!

Cook explains that today will see the first iPhones on display that were designed “from the ground up” for Apple Intelligence.

Apple Watch

First up is the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 10

Jeff Williams, COO, shows the new Apple Watch. It comes with a larger screen.

Apple achieves this primarily through a new glass that extends further to the edges.

The new screen is not only larger, but also brighter and should be easier to read from different angles.

Apple Watch in jet black! Greetings from the iPhone 7.

In addition to jet black, there is also rose gold and aluminum, as well as gray.

The Series 10 is the thinnest Apple Watch ever at just 9.7 millimeters.

There are new and smaller speakers – and these can play music or podcasts directly.

It is waterproof up to 50 meters.

It can be charged up to 80 percent in 30 minutes, making it the fastest-charging Apple Watch ever.

The new premium material will replace titanium and stainless steel, making it lighter.

At the same time, the metal bracelets were upgraded to titanium.

The titanium Apple Watch is CO2 neutral.

S10 processor: 4-core Neural Engine for all kinds of intelligent tasks such as fall and crash detection and noise cancellation when making phone calls.

New feature: sleep apnea detection.

80% of patients are currently undetected, Apple Watch can help to find out.

Available in 150 countries, including Europe. Also on Series 9 and Ultra 2.

Depth gauge in the Apple Watch that starts immediately when you enter the water.

Summary of the new features in watchOS 11, also in conjunction with the new Series 10.

The battery should still last for 18 hours.

$399 for GPS, $499 for Cellular+GPS, pre-orders start today, launch September 20.

Next up is the Apple Watch Ultra.

Summary of how the Apple Watch Ultra is the best smartwatch for athletes of all types.

A new color – so probably not a new model.

New black tone. Made from 95 percent recycled titanium, and matching bracelets. Also new: titanium Milanese bracelet.

Starting at 799, the new color can be pre-ordered today and arrives September 20th.

AirPods

Next up are the AirPods 4.

They are said to be the most comfortable AirPods Apple has ever made.

The H2 chip and new speakers ensure improved sound.

Thanks to head gestures (nodding or shaking your head), you can answer or reject calls without saying anything.

Active noise cancellation! Made possible by new microphones and improved audio chips.

Likewise: Transparency mode and Adaptive Audio, with the mode changing automatically.

Wireless charging and a speaker in the charging case – just like the AirPods Pro.

$129, $179 with noise cancellation. Also coming September 20th.

AirPods Max in new colors and with USB-C port.

Otherwise, nothing else seems to be changing – $549, pre-order the new colors starting today and availability starting September 20th.

AirPods Pro: Come with new health features. Will the AirPods become hearing aids?

Prevention: AirPods Pro as earplugs – for noise protection.

Hearing test in the AirPods Pro – from the comfort of your own home. Just like at the ENT doctor: sounds are played that get louder and louder and as soon as you hear the sound, you press the screen of the iPhone.

Also: AirPods Pro as a hearing aid, tailored to the results of the hearing test.

This will be available in more than 100 countries, including Germany. You need iOS 18 and the AirPods Pro 2. (If you already have them, you don’t need to buy new ones!)

iPhone

Oh, iPhones are dying. The reason we’re all here. 😉

The next generation was “designed specifically for Apple Intelligence.”

Lots of bright colors – and vertical cameras.

A big story is made out of the case colors. Pink, blue and green, along with the usual colors.

2000 nits down to 1 nits brightness.

Screen sizes: 6.1 and 6.7 inches.

New: Action button whose function can be customized (like the iPhone 15 Pro).

Camera control: New button on the side that is touch sensitive and can trigger various camera functions.

A18, a new chip “especially for iPhone 16”. Can of course do Apple Intelligence.

A18 is even said to be able to compete with desktop processors while consuming less power than its predecessor.

Hi, Craig Federighi. Tell us about Apple Intelligence.

Basically, there is a summary of the long presentation at WWDC in June. With on-device services, private cloud compute and ChatGPT (on request and only on request).

Writing tools: Give the iPhone a few bullet points and let AI write a detailed email.

…or let AI create new emojis. Or whole pictures, of course.

You can search for photos by vaguely describing what was in them.

Mail summarizes content instead of showing the first few words. Notifications are sorted by priority.

And of course: Siri. Siri can now follow you better, even if you stumble over what you’re saying. Or just text Siri instead of saying something.

Apple Intelligence will be a free update – for supported devices – and will initially be available as a beta in the “next month” (i.e. not until iOS 18.1) and only in US English. Other languages will follow over time.

“Visual Intelligence”: Take a photo of an object and AI automatically searches for further information, such as opening hours of a restaurant. Controlled with the camera button on the iPhone 16. Of course with Apple’s data protection promises. But it won’t be available until “later this year”.

The camera controls are touch-sensitive but flush with the body. You feel haptic feedback like on the trackpad. This lets you click for real, or just a little – like on a real camera (where half-pressing triggers focus multiple times).

48 MP main camera, 12 MP ultra-wide camera, now also with macro mode.

Spatial recordings – for Apple Vision Pro. Video and photo.

New audio features: Wind noise can be filtered out of videos so you can understand more clearly what was actually meant.

Now that the iPhone 16 is getting a “modern” chip, Apple has also revised the internal layout and this has a positive effect on gaming. Now also with ray tracing, since the chip has of course inherited the features from last year.

Funny how the game stutters a bit in the demo. That could have been done better, especially in terms of recording 😉

The battery is supposed to be bigger, and together with optimizations in the A18 chip and iOS 18, Apple promises a big leap in battery life.

Cost: $799 (iPhone 16, 128 GB) $899 (iPhone 16 Plus, 128 GB), pre-order starting today, in stores September 20th.

iPhone 16 Pro

Larger screens: 6.3 and 6.9 inches – the largest iPhone screens ever.

Also made of titanium (grade 5).

Four colors: Black, White, Natural, Desert (also known as Gold).

Inside is aluminum to improve cooling (it’s fast like the iPhone 15 Pro had heat issues while gaming).

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to have the best battery performance ever – says Joz.

The A18 Pro chip is used as the processor. Even faster than the A18. 16-kernel neural engine, 35 TOPS.

Six-core GPU, 20 percent faster than the A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro.

Overall, the CPU is said to be 15 percent faster than the A17 Pro and require 20 percent less power.

New media features for video recording, as well as faster transfer speeds via USB 3.

Cameras: 48 MP Fusion Camera, 48 MP Ultra Wide Camera, 12 MP 5x Zoom, also on iPhone 16 Pro (not just Pro Max).

Camera Control is otherwise pretty much identical to the iPhone 16 and is expected to be equipped with additional features over the course of the year.

4K at 120 frames per second, thanks to the new, faster sensors.

This can also be recorded in ProRes directly to an external hard drive.

Four “studio” microphones for clear recordings and noise cancellation.

Audio Mix: Machine learning can distinguish where the sound came from in recorded audio and, if necessary, filter out speech from people who are not in the picture.

Voice Memos: You can now speak over an existing memo – for example, if you have an idea for a song and want to sing over your instrumental.

The Weeknd’s new music video was shot entirely on the iPhone. Apple is currently showing a making-of, with the 4K120 mode being particularly praised as it allows for slo-mo effects.

MagSafe: New cases made of silicone and transparent. The new Pro models support Qi2.

Cost: $999 (iPhone 16 Pro, 128 GB), $1199 (iPhone 16 Pro Max, 256 GB), available September 20, pre-order starting Friday.

And now: back to Tim.

Tim Cook once again summarized everything he and his colleagues have shown today.

Cook wishes everyone a great day – the presentation is over.
