Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart: Why the final falls on a Monday for the first time

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart will be in the way of the calendar next year, which will lead to a special feature in the tournament schedule.

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix has a permanent place in the Stuttgart sports calendar. The best female tennis aces have been playing in the state capital since 2006, after the tournament was first launched in Filderstadt in 1978. Since 2009, the tournament has been played on clay, immediately at the start of the European clay court season. The date always falls in mid/late April, including next year. However, the 2025 event will clash with the late Easter (April 18 to 21).

No sporting events are allowed on Good Friday

This is a first: the final will be held on Monday next year and not on Sunday as usual. This is because the statutory holiday regulations do not allow sporting events on Good Friday, which falls in the tournament week in 2025. Accordingly, the Porsche Grand Prix will be extended until Easter Monday. The quarter-finals will then be held on Saturday, the semi-finals on Sunday. The organizers point out that tickets already purchased for Good Friday are valid for Saturday. The peculiarity of the highest religious holiday was only noticed when advance sales had already started.
