Uttar Pradesh: Attempt to sabotage Kalindi Express foiled, ATS launches investigation | X

A suspected derailment attempt of the Kalindi Express was uncovered when LPG cylinders and other flammable substances were discovered on the Kanpur-Kasganj railway line near Barrajpur-Uttarpura.

The train, en route from Prayagraj to Bhiwani, narrowly escaped a potentially devastating accident.

Early on Monday morning, a team led by Inspector General (IG) Neelabja Chaudhary of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.

The plot came to light after railway authorities discovered a LPG cylinder and a glass bottle filled with petroleum on the tracks late Sunday night. Several other flammable materials were also found in a bag nearby, raising serious fears of a possible sabotage attempt.

IG Chaudhary, accompanied by a team of forensic experts, arrived at the spot around 11 am to assess the situation. “We are investigating all possible angles and the forensic team is thoroughly examining the evidence found at the spot,” Chaudhary said. He also mentioned that the team is investigating whether this is an isolated incident or part of a larger conspiracy.

Local police have detained more than 12 suspects for questioning in connection with the case. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Trivedi, who is also involved in the investigation, said that CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being examined to trace any suspicious movements before the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijendra Dwivedi, who was also at the scene, confirmed that a multi-agency investigation is underway to find out more details about the materials found and the possible perpetrators. Further investigations will focus on finding out whether an organised group was involved or if the crime was committed by individuals.
