Former GOP lawmaker warns of Trump’s ‘very despicable’ election plan

Former Congressman David Jolly (Republican of Florida) is sounding the alarm about how he thinks Donald Trump will pursue his strategy against Vice President Kamala Harris less than two months before the election.

“He knows he has nothing to gain in the debate on Tuesday night,” Jolly said on MSNBC over the weekend. “Donald Trump will finish this race with 46 or 47 percent.”

Trump won 46.1% of the vote in his successful 2016 campaign and 46.8% in his unsuccessful 2020 campaign.

Given this reality, Jolly predicted the former president’s next move.

“Donald Trump has been unable to do anything other than attack Vice President Harris in the last 60 days in a very despicable way,” he said.

Jolly also had some advice for Harris ahead of Tuesday night’s debate.

“Be prepared to talk to the moderators and almost ignore Donald Trump,” he said. “He is a convicted criminal who is a liar, who is boorish, racist and xenophobic, and whose word you cannot trust or take seriously.”

If she succeeds in implementing her policies and defending herself against resistance from the moderators while largely ignoring Trump, the former president will “look like an extra on the set, irrelevant to the evening’s conversation.”
