Workshop: Photoshop retouching with AI techniques | heise online

There are plenty of retouching functions in Photoshop. However, if we don’t just want to retouch annoying things but also create new image content, we can now access various AI-based techniques. Despite astonishing results, it is noticeable that some of these functions are still in development and precise control options, as we know from other functions, are missing.

The latest public beta version of Photoshop (download) includes some features from Firefly 3 – Adobe’s web-based AI app – and shows the direction in which generative retouching can develop.

In this workshop we will use, among other things, the Generative filling and that Generative expansion with the crop tool. The results of both functions can be influenced via the Properties panel in terms of both variants and quality. In the individual steps, we will first expand the format, add new image content, modify it and check the quality.
