Apple event today: iPhone 16 Pro price may not increase & other final leaks

The time has finally come: iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, the standard iPhone 16 models, the new Apple Watch Series 10 and the new AirPods will be unveiled today at 10:30 PM IST at Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event. So far, numerous leaks and insider tips have more or less painted a picture of what to expect from the new iPhones and other Apple devices. Now, just before the launch, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has shared a few last-minute rumors surrounding the event in a series of posts on X.

The price of the iPhone 16 Pro could remain unchanged

Gurman mentions in the post that he expects the iPhone 16 Pro to continue selling at the $999 price tag that has included all “Pro” models since the iPhone 11 Pro. That $999 price tag was introduced with the iPhone X in 2017, and that price has been the case for all premium models since then. Last year, the iPhone 15 Pro Max did get $100 more expensive, but Apple made the base model available with 256GB, negating the price jump by technically removing the 128GB option. The iPhone 15 Pro, however, stuck with 128GB of storage and a $999 price tag. It will be interesting to see if Apple introduces 256GB of base storage for the iPhone 16 Pro while maintaining the $999 price tag.

No Apple Watch Ultra 3? Focus is on the Apple Watch Series 10

In another post, Gurman claims he doesn’t expect Apple to unveil the Apple Watch Ultra 3 – the successor to the Ultra 2 – at the It’s Glowtime event. Instead, he suggests Apple could launch the Ultra 2 in a new shade of black and continue to offer it alongside the new Apple Watch Series 10, which will take center stage. In addition, he expects the new Apple Watch SE to be delayed. As for the Apple Watch Series 10, it is expected to feature sleep apnea detection (a key health feature this year), a larger display (44mm and 49mm), and a refined design with thinner bezels. Gurman also points out that the blood pressure monitoring system has been delayed and will come later.

New AirPods Max with USB-C could finally arrive

It’s been a while since Apple launched the AirPods Max, and Gurman says Apple may finally unveil a follow-up with USB-C, Adaptive Audio, and improved noise cancellation. Consumers would likely welcome the option to get Apple’s flagship AirPods Max without a Lightning port and thus charge them via USB-C. The AirPods Max 2, or whatever Apple will call them, are expected to be unveiled alongside the AirPods 4 at the event.
