“Brazil: New hope for the hyacinth macaws” today in live stream and TV: This is what the show is about

Many years ago, Neiva Guedes fell in love with the bright blue hyacinth macaws when she saw the large and majestic birds flying through the Brazilian rainforest. From then on, the dedicated biologist was committed to protecting the animals. And this was desperately needed, because their numbers were declining dramatically. While the birds had always been subject to moderate hunting by indigenous people, who used their colorful feathers for costumes, and predators, the increased deforestation of the rainforest was now adding to this, depriving the parrots of the opportunity to build nests. Hyacinth macaws use a very specific tree for this purpose: the Mandovi tree. Only its trunk has the necessary thickness and stability for the stately birds to build their nesting holes in it. In addition to reforesting these trees, Neiva Guedes now offers them specially developed nesting boxes, which the birds are happy to accept. Neiva has also tackled the problem that usually only one of the hatched chicks survives the first few weeks in the wild. While the chicks are still in the breeding phase, the ornithologist climbs the tall trees using mountaineering equipment, removes the unhatched eggs from the nests and lets the young hatch in the laboratory. Once they are strong enough to survive, Neiva returns them to their parents. A daring but promising project that could help the hyacinth macaws to survive in the future and show off their bright blue plumage in the vastness of the Amazon.
