Duck race on the Schmiech with record participation

Duck race on the Schmiech with record participation

On Sunday afternoon, 9847 yellow, pink or green plastic ducks were sent on their journey from the bridge in Berkacher Grund in Schmiech with the help of an excavator shovel. Their destination: the bridge at Groggensee. The owners of the first ducks will receive valuable prizes. A total of 15 non-cash prizes and three cash prizes of 1000, 500 and 400 euros were awarded for the ducks belonging to private individuals. The approximately 50 percent of the companies that were purchased by companies were evaluated separately.

For several weeks now, the Lions Club has been selling the ducks for three euros each. The small plastic ducks could be decorated, but not tampered with.

There is also a prize for the most beautiful duckling

The prettiest duck won a special prize. Some of the little animals had made themselves really pretty, like the duck that started as Kügele.

In recent years, the Lions Club has supported the food bank, the social fund for citizens and the Dyonisus plate in Munderkingen. This year, the Class 2000 of addiction prevention in schools, the hospice in Kirchbierlingen, the THW Ehingen, the Ehingen-Kinshasa drug bridge, the outpatient hospice group and “Erneuerung IV” Urspring will be supported. “The money stays in the region because the ducks were also bought in the region,” said Jürgen Zeller, chairman of the support association.

Peter Guggemos ensures a faster flow rate

So that the spectators at Groggensee did not have to wait as long for the finish line as last year, Peter Guggemos from Ehinger Energie first throttled the turbine in the Schmiech and then increased it again to increase the flow speed of the river.

Lothar Huber entertained the many visitors at Groggensee while they waited. He said that many duck owners from the previous year had taken advantage of the opportunity to recycle their duck in 2023. Patron Mayor Alexander Baumann thanked the Lions Club on behalf of the citizens and hoped that his own duck would be well placed.

After 50 minutes the first duck can be seen

Guggemos’ attempts were successful; just 50 minutes after the start, yellow shimmered through the leaves of the plants along the banks of the Schmiech. A small yellow duck swam briskly ahead towards the finish, where it was met by divers from the THW. The rest of the leading group followed in loose formation.

Notary Kerstin Zacker made sure that everything was correct. The winner of the winning duck is called Stier-Graf, the runner-up is Jonah Frech, and the third-place winner is Julian Moosbauer. The fourth prize was won by Ernst Fone’s duck, and the winner of the fifth prize is called Guido. All entries are marked with a telephone number.

The ducks purchased by companies took more time and reached the finish line long after the first 15 ducks purchased by private individuals.
