Trial date in criminal proceedings against former KHA director postponed again, now to November | Crime

The court had initially set March 25 as the trial date for jury selection in Johnson’s case. Since then, federal prosecutors have filed four requests for adjournment, resulting in trial dates of May 20, July 15, September 16 and, most recently, November 18.

Court documents show that a new arraignment is scheduled for October 29 in the courtroom of U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey C. Manske.

U.S. District Judge Alan D. Albright will preside over the case.

Johnson was arrested in Georgetown on January 17 after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She posted $25,000 bail on January 19. She pleaded not guilty.

Johnson worked for KHA from April 23, 2018, until her resignation on August 1, 2022. According to the indictment, she was promoted to general manager on January 10, 2019. Later that year, Johnson allegedly began diverting funds, starting with approximately $4,264 for loan payments on her personal vehicle from October 2019 to July 2021. According to the six-page indictment, she used thousands of dollars for other vehicle-related expenses.

The bulk of the money allegedly stolen was $39,200, which the government said was used to pay monthly rent on Johnson’s home from December 2019 to March 2022.

The indictment states that Johnson spent more than $10,680 on bills such as electricity, internet, home furniture and a private flight.

The final count is said to have taken place on March 2, 2022. She was accused of “knowingly and willfully” making a “false, fraudulent and fictitious material statement and representation, namely: that she had not used (Killeen) Housing Authority funds to pay her rent, even though … she had used those funds to pay the monthly rent on her home…”, according to the indictment.
