Trial date in criminal proceedings against former KHA director postponed again, now to November | Crime

The trial of the former director of the Killeen Housing Authority has been postponed for the fourth time and is now scheduled to take place in November in federal court in Waco.

DeAdra Johnson faces 15 years in prison after being indicted by a federal grand jury on Jan. 9 on nine counts of theft of government property and making a false statement. The more than $69,300 Johnson is accused of embezzling was for programs associated with KHA, which provides public housing in Killeen. The case is a federal criminal case because Johnson is accused of stealing from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which provided KHA with “several hundred thousand dollars” annually, according to the indictment.
