Many sunny days: Saxony’s outdoor pools draw a positive balance

The stable weather conditions with plenty of sunshine since August have brought a successful season to Saxony’s outdoor pools. In both Dresden and Leipzig, expectations were clearly exceeded, according to a survey by the German Press Agency. “This is all the more remarkable because the start of the season in May and June was spoiled by the very changeable, not very summery weather,” said Lars Kühl from Dresdner Bäder GmbH.

Dresden: 20 percent above previous year’s figure

By the beginning of September, around 325,000 guests had flocked to Dresden’s nine outdoor pools. “This means we are 20 percent above the figure for the same period last year and have already exceeded our seasonal target of 310,000 visitors,” explained Kühl.

This weekend, numerous outdoor pools in the state capital will be closing. Until mid-September, people can still cool off in the Georg-Arnhold-Bad, the Kombibad Prohlis and the Strandbad Wostra.

Expectations clearly exceeded in Leipzig’s outdoor pools

Around 225,000 visitors were counted in Leipzig’s outdoor pools by the beginning of September. “This means we are well above expectations and, with the end of the season on September 15, we will probably achieve the second-strongest result since the Leipzig sports pools were founded,” said Katja Gläß, spokeswoman for the Leipzig sports pools.

In 2018, almost 265,000 guests were registered. “For us, this is also a sign that the outdoor pools in Leipzig are an essential and important component in the leisure landscape, regardless of the comfortable lake landscape,” said Gläß.

Because the weather is still good, some outdoor pools in the trade fair city will remain open until mid-September. “A real feat, because the regular staff will now also be needed in the swimming pools, which are returning to normal operations after the summer break,” said Gläß.
