Eisenach loses to Füchse Berlin in the opening match

ThSV Eisenach started the new season of the handball Bundesliga with a home defeat. The Thuringians lost 35:41 (17:19) to runner-up Füchse Berlin in a heated atmosphere despite a strong fighting performance. Eisenach’s best scorers were Marko Grgic, Fynn Hangstein, Moritz Ende and Malte Donker with six goals each.

The Thuringians were aggressive from the start. Their offensive defense caused the capital city team some problems in the early stages. At the same time, however, they were often stopped by Füchse keeper Dejan Milosavljev and missed the opportunity to create some breathing room early in the game.

As the game progressed, the Füchse improved their attack and Eisenach lost the ball a few times, which were promptly punished. Goalkeeper Silvio Heinevetter also barely got a hold of a ball. After a good 23 minutes, the hosts were three goals behind for the first time (13:16). However, they stayed in the game until halftime thanks to strong moves from the outside positions.

After the break, the Berliners continued to push the pace and Eisenach could no longer keep up. After a good 40 minutes, the deficit had grown to 22:28. But the hosts fought and the Füchse received too many time penalties. Eisenach caught up again, but the guests kept a cool head in the end.
