Predictions, odds and tips for the game Army Black Knights vs. Florida Atlantic Owls

Army opened the season with a win over Lehigh. There’s always talk of adding some extra spice to the offense (passing) in the offseason, but so far there’s been little sign of that. Army faced little resistance on the ground against Lehigh, rushing for 375 yards. When you’re averaging nearly 7 yards per carry, there’s little reason to put the ball in danger. The Black Knights can probably win the game against FAU.

I think head coach Tom Herman can have some success at FAU at some point. The Owls only lost 16-10 to Michigan State last week, but I think that says more about what’s going on with the Spartans right now than the Owls. Usually if you get less than 250 yards on offense, you get smacked. The big fear is that they allowed almost five yards per carry to MSU and what that means when you’re going against a running team like Army.

Evaluating military academies is often difficult because they recruit differently and play differently. That said, I don’t see how FAU could be made the favorite even at home. The Owls held up against MSU last week, but that’s not enough for me. Army will wear them down with that running attack that not only moves the ball but puts pressure on the offense because it consumes so much time. Not only can Army cover, but I expect them to win.
