Fans are stunned as Roy Keane makes unexpected comment live on ITV

Roy Keane was on duty as an expert at the Ireland vs England match

Roy Keane shocked fans with his comments during ITV coverage of the England vs Ireland match in Dublin.

The opening match of the Nations League marks a new era for both sides, as both coaches take charge of their respective national teams for the first time.

England interim coach Lee Carsley is in charge for the first time since replacing Gareth Southgate following his resignation following the EURO 2024 final defeat to Spain.

On the other hand, former Icelandic coach Heimir Hallgrimsson will also lead his team for the first time since his appointment; Keane was previously a contender for his current position.

Keane is loved by fans for his impartiality and made his opinion clear to the Irish Football Association as part of his pre-match pundit duties.

The former Man Utd captain, when asked about what the next two years mean for the Irish national team, said: “It’s huge. Look, we know the problems of the last two years with a lack of quality. His comment took his fans by surprise, but viewers liked how little he cared about the consequences of his words.

One fan said: “Roy Keane is swearing on TV, with an advert saying ‘Swearing is always wrong’ playing in the background.”

Another said: “Roy Keane has quality! He says what he sees!”

A third said: “P*** up in a brewery” at quarter to five on live TV. Only Roy Keane!”

A fourth added: “
