New smartphone updates are here: Install now!

Of course, Samsung is once again at the forefront of the update series. The Korean manufacturer has equipped numerous models of its currently available smartphone classes with the August patch for the Android operating system and recently started delivering the September patch on the folding models Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. But that’s not all there is to report from Samsung’s update cosmos.

Samsung distributes important updates

A large Circle-to-Search update with extensive AI functions has been available for other Galaxy A-class devices for a few days now. After the corresponding firmware update, it is possible to use a more intelligent search. The smartphone can then also translate entire texts. The devices that benefit from the update include the Galaxy A35, the Galaxy A55, but also the slightly older Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54 models.

Samsung has just announced an update to One UI 6.1.1 for Europe, among other countries. This is for the smartphones in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series, including the corresponding Galaxy S23 FE, as well as for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The update, including the September patch, will be available for Android from next Monday, September 9. It is expected to be the last major update before the introduction of One UI 7 and also includes new AI functions.

There is less good news for all users of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. While these 2020 smartphones were previously equipped with new security patches every month, in the future there will only be a corresponding update against newly discovered security leaks four times a year.

New Pixel update for Google smartphones

A major update has been available for all currently supported Google Pixel smartphones for a few days. Numerous models receive a fix for removing third-party APKs to close a newly discovered security hole. For the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google is also promising an improvement in Wi-Fi stability under certain conditions. The September patch for Android is also already part of the new firmware. According to Google, it closes numerous security holes. An upgrade to Android 15 for Pixel phones will probably not be available before October.

Meanwhile, users of the Telekom T-Phone can now upgrade to Android 14. The August patch for Android is now available for numerous Huawei phones. Users of the Huawei Nova 9, Huawei Mate 50 Pro and Huawei P60 Pro, among others, benefit from this. Another Huawei update ensures display optimizations; including on the Huawei Mate X3.

OnePlus with many new updates

OnePlus has also recently made extensive updates to many of its smartphones. For example, an update to OxygenOS 14.0.0.1100 is available for the OnePlus Nord N20 SE and the OnePlus Nord N30 SE. The only new feature on the N20 SE is the Android patch for the month of August, and the N30SE also fixes a bug that prevented notes from being saved automatically when the respective app was closed. OxygenOS 14.0.0.831 with some minor optimizations is currently available for the OnePlus 12R.

The update to OxygenOS 14.0.1.900 for the OnePlus Nord CE4 Lite 5G is much more extensive. In addition to providing the August patch, this firmware also improved the zoom performance of the camera when recording videos and display errors in some games. The manufacturer attests that the OnePlus Nord 4 has better camera performance via OxygenOS 14.1.0.401, an easier way to take screenshots via OxygenOS 14.0.0.606 for the OnePlus 2T and via OxygenOS 14.0.0.530 for the OnePlus Nord 3.

New updates also from Apple

A minor update is also available for iPhone users. iOS 17.6.1 is now available for newer models, with general performance and feature improvements. Apple has also fixed an issue with enabling and disabling Advanced Data Protection, the enhanced data protection for iCloud. iOS 16.7.10 is now available for older iPhones, which also allows the use of enhanced data protection.
