Former world number one Karolina Pliskova had to undergo surgery on her ankle after her injury at the US Open.

Pliskova had one of the earliest retirements in tennis ever when she had to throw in the towel in round 2 of the 2024 US Open with the score at 30:15 to Jasmine Paolini – she had injured her left ankle in the previous point.

Now she had to undergo surgery.

And the operation seemed to be successful. “I am happy to announce that I had a successful operation on the tendon of my left ankle,” reported the 32-year-old. They now want to get fit again quickly, “but health comes first.”

Pliskova, the 2016 US Open finalist, has to cope with another setback on her way to old spheres after she fell out of the top 50 this year – partly due to injury. She is currently ranked 44th.
