NFL News and Rumors: “Hope for 16 games”

NFL News: Commissioner Roger Goodell will play 16 games abroad

Before the NFL’s first game in Brazil on Saturday night between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles, Commissioner Roger Goodell has spoken out. He will continue to build his league’s presence abroad. In recent years, the NFL has played several games in Mexico and England, and in 2022 and 2023 Germany will also host games for the first time in Frankfurt and Munich.

“The owners have already given the green light for eight games,” said Goodell, referring to a decision made in December. “I hope that it will be 16 games at some point. Let’s see how it goes.” This season, a total of five games will be played outside the USA: three games will be played in London in October, and the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers will come to Munich on November 10.

If there are actually 16 international games, theoretically every team could play abroad once. This could also be part of the NFL’s plan to build the season to 18 games in the medium term. Since 2021 there have been 17 season games, previously there were 16.
