From Monday, September 9, runway 23.05. (Niendorf/Langenhorn) will be closed, the airport announced. Until September 23, all takeoffs and landings will be handled via Norderstedt and Alsterdorf.

“During the annual maintenance and repair work required on our runways, we remove the rubber abrasion from the touchdown points, flush the drain lines, renew the markings and examine the so-called runway lighting, including the electrical system,” said Martin Borstelmann, civil engineering project manager at Hamburg Airport, according to the statement. “These measures ensure that the runways remain fit for flight operations.”

In addition to the proper maintenance of the runway, the surface of the parallel taxiway D1, which is around 900 metres long, will also be renovated.

In May, the airport had already renovated runway 15/33 (Norderstedt/Alsterdorf). The closure lasted only five days. The airport justifies the fact that it has now been closed for two weeks by saying that the taxiway was being renovated at the same time.

Work will continue there even after the runway closure. The taxiway will therefore be closed until October 1st. During this time, runway 23.05. (Niendorf/Langenhorn) can only be used for a limited period.

According to the airport, the length is sufficient for the majority of aircraft. Construction-related deviations in the take-off and landing directions are only expected to occur in isolated cases.
