Three minors in Georgia charged with school shooting threats after deadly attack

New York, September 6 (EFE). – Authorities in the state of Georgia have charged three minors aged 11, 13 and 17 in different parts of the US state with threatening to carry out school shootings.

The charges follow Wednesday’s fatal shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, in which another minor killed four people.

The teenagers were arrested in Brooks, Crisp and Valdosta counties and charged with making “terrorist threats.” At least two of them said during questioning that their messages were intended as a joke.

In Brooks County, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified a 13-year-old boy as the author of a school shooting threat posted on a messaging platform used by students and teachers.

The boy, who attended classes virtually, was also charged with “computer intrusion” and told authorities the message was a joke.

Nevertheless, after consultation with the juvenile justice authority, he was arrested and taken to a youth center.

The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 17-year-old student who made shooting threats on the messaging app TextNow. Authorities searched his belongings and vehicle but found no weapons.

In Valdosta, an 11-year-old girl was arrested after threatening to shoot on social media.

She later claimed the remark was a joke. The juvenile court decided not to take her into custody and she was released into the care of her mother.

These incidents occurred after 14-year-old Colt Gray shot four people and injured nine others with a semi-automatic rifle at Apalachee High School in Barrow County on Wednesday.

Colt Gray has been charged with four counts of murder, while his father, Colin Gray, 54, is charged with manslaughter, premeditated murder and child abuse for allegedly giving his son access to the weapon. Both face life in prison. EFE
