Rail problems after bus accident in Elmshorn

Rail commuters will need strong nerves until Sunday. The signal box at Elmshorn station (Pinneberg district) has failed due to the breakdown of an electric bus. The bus was in an underpass on Thursday afternoon with low clearance at Elmshorn station. This damaged the battery of the e-bus and caused it to burst into flames. A lot of water ran into a signal box during the fire-fighting work, and cables now need to be replaced, said a railway spokesman. This is causing train cancellations. The Kiel – Hamburg railway line is affected at the Elmshorn railway junction, among others. The railway is asking commuters to travel to Hamburg via Lübeck. Runway closure ensures more air traffic over Norderstedt

At Hamburg Airport, the Norderstedt/Alsterdorf runway will be the only runway for two weeks starting next Monday.
