GWD played the first half of the season evenly, but the bottom line was that they could have done better if they had made better use of their chances. The Green-Whites missed a lot, especially in the opening phase, including a seven-meter penalty from Florian Kranzmann, and were 1:3 behind (7th). But Minden improved with a good Malte Semisch behind them and turned the party around with a 3:0 run to make it 5:3 (10th).

It went back and forth, but GWD lacked the final consequence in many actions. Minden’s new signing Alexander Weck scored three times from the penalty spot, at 11:9 the Green-Whites had pulled ahead again, Tom Bergner missed a 12:9 goal on a fast break. The hosts took advantage of Minden’s mistakes and led 13:12 after 28 minutes of play, but after Weck passed to Carles Asensio, GWD took a 13:13 lead into the break.

The second half mirrored the first, but with a better ending. The guests were leading 17:15, but Asensio and Luka Sebetic wasted the 18th goal. Minden increased their lead to 19:16, Philipp Vorlicek missed a four-goal lead on an empty net (42nd). After that, nothing went right for GWD, and the Eulen took the lead after a 5:0 run – 21:19 (48th).

Afterwards, GWD coach Aaron Ziercke took a timeout and asked for more determination. In fact, pivot Bergner brought his team back into the lead, with Max Staar increasing the lead to 23:21 (51st minute).

But there was another setback, and the Eulen quickly looked like the winners at 27:26 (58th minute). But in the final phase, the Weserstadt team’s better and more composed game prevailed, Ian Weber equalized and 15 seconds before the final whistle, Vorlicek scored the winning goal.

GWD: Weber 5, Kranzmann 5, Bergner 4, Weck 4/3, Asensio 3, Staar 3, Sebetic 2, Vorlicek 2.
