Paramount+ is fueling the ongoing true crime boom. The streamer has given the green light to an eight-part miniseries entitled “JonBenét Ramsey”. The roles in it, as has now been announced, are played by Melissa McCarthy ( “Nine Perfect Strangers”) and Clive Owen ( “Murder at the End of the World”). Filming for the film by Richard LaGravenese ( “The Divide”) as showrunner.

The murder of child beauty queen Jon Benét Ramsey, which has been reconstructed many times in film, is still one of the most discussed unsolved criminal cases in US history. On Christmas 1996, a blackmail letter appeared in the house of the married couple Patsy (McCarthy) and John Bennett Ramsey (Owen), demanding a ransom for the release of their six-year-old daughter. Shortly after the police arrived, the father discovered JonBenét’s body in the basement of the building.

The family was quickly suspected of faking a kidnapping. And wild speculation arose in the press. To date, however, it has not been determined who is responsible for the girl’s violent death. The streaming production will focus on the lives of the Ramseys before and after the terrible crime and will focus on the unbreakable bond between Patsy and John, despite all the hostility.

The miniseries was developed and written by Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach, who pitched it to “Yellowstone” production companies MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios were able to sell. David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Melissa McCarthy and director Anne Sewitsky ( “For Lack of Evidence”), who are directing four episodes, serve as executive producers alongside writers LaGravenese, Query and Wallach.
