Sony has officially shown off the PS5 Pro for the first time, as part of a graphic released to mark PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. The tech giant has indirectly confirmed recent leaks that revealed the console’s design.

The first PlayStation was released in December 1994, and the console’s 30th anniversary is also just around the corner. Sony has now published a post on the PlayStation Blog that mainly announced the celebrations surrounding the anniversary, from the release of game soundtracks on Spotify to “Shapes of Play”, PlayStation-themed gadgets that will be released in December.

The most interesting detail, however, is hidden in the anniversary graphic, which depicts the PlayStation symbols from images of PlayStation products, from the first PlayStation to the PSP Go and PlayStation Move. Among these symbols is one that is reminiscent of a PlayStation 5 Slim (approx. 512 euros on Amazon), but has three stripes instead of just one. This makes the icon look exactly like the PS5 Pro is supposed to look according to the latest leaks. Sony thus indirectly confirms that these leaks are correct and that the PlayStation 5 Pro will indeed only receive minimal design adjustments.

Rumors suggest that the PS5 Pro will be officially unveiled in September, although rumors about the exact launch details seem to be mixed – the console could be announced as early as next week via an entry on the PlayStation Blog, or as late as late September at a launch event. The PS5 Pro is said to have only a slightly faster processor, and will stick with 16 GB of GDDR6 graphics memory and a 1 TB SSD, but Sony is said to be installing a much faster RDNA 3 graphics chip, which should enable better ray tracing, AI upscaling and a higher frame rate.
