Police shooting in Bonn: Identity of the dead man clarified

After the fatal police shooting of a suspected knife attacker in Bonn, the identity of the man is being clarified. “He is a 42-year-old German,” said a spokesman for the Bonn public prosecutor’s office. Whether the police firing the shots on Wednesday was lawful is still being investigated.

It was not possible to say how many shots were fired and whether one or more officers were involved. Among other things, videos are being analyzed and witnesses are being questioned. The dead man has now been autopsied, but the results are not yet available. The man was seriously injured during the police operation and died shortly afterwards in hospital.

The 42-year-old is said to have previously attacked two people with a knife on the street. The police assume that it was a dispute between acquaintances in the homeless community. A 43-year-old woman was slightly injured and a 32-year-old man was seriously injured. If the crime is confirmed, the investigation will be closed because the accused is dead, said the spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office.
